Be Our Guest
We would like to invite you to attend a meeting as our guest and see for yourself what Toastmasters is all about.
What should you expect at your first meeting? Relax! We will not call on you to speak unless you want to.
Every meeting has an agenda where roles and tasks are assigned to club members. You will only be asked to introduce yourself and offer any other information about yourself you wish to give.
The following roles are found in our meetings.
- The Toastmaster of the Evening introduces the various participants during the prepared speaking portion of the meeting.
- The Toastgiver offers a toast at the beginning of the evening.
- The Table Topics Master selects a topic and asks questions of the audience. The selected audience member has one minute to speak on that topic. Guests may participate in Table Topics if they wish, but they do not have to. Speakers present prepared speeches from 5 to 8 minutes in length.
- Evaluators provide constructive and effective feedback to all speakers.
- The General Evaluator provides suggestions to all who participated and evaluates the evaluators.
- The Timer records the length of each speech, evaluation and Table Topic Speech and reports it to the meeting.
- The Listening Post takes notes on each speech and asks brief questions at the end of each meeting based on information given in the speeches.
- The Ah Counter/Grammarian gives us a few tips on Grammar and reminds speakers of the number of ahs or ohs they used
We invite you to participate by applauding after each speaker is introduced and at the conclusion of each speech.
At each meeting we give visitors the opportunity to give their reactions to the meeting.
We look forward to meeting you and hope that you consider joining our club .
